What is the 'Very Demure’ trend?
You may be wondering… why is everyone saying “very demure”? As well as “very cutesy” and “very considerate”? What do any of these phrases have to do with each other? If you watch our video below and are still confused, this blog is for you.
Well that, my friend, is the latest TikTok trend set by Jools Lebron. Self-described “fierce diva” and content creator Lebron shared a satirical clip on why women should present themselves conservatively in the workplace. She recommended that women rock looks that are “demure and modest and respectful at the workplace.” 1
By google definitions, demure means: reserved, modest, and shy (typically used of a woman). But in the way Jools Lebron is phrasing it, it can also mean humble, self-controlled, and classy AF.
Linked below is the original TikTok video that gained 35.8 million views (at the time of writing)
While she’s implying that women should present themselves in a certain way, [Lebron] said her version of "demure" isn't just about appearance; it's a statement of self-awareness and confidence. 2
With the millions of users on TikTok daily, big companies and celebrities are also hopping on this trend. Many use it as a marketing campaign, or to stay relevant with the Gen Z crowds. You can find examples by NASA, Playstation, and Hello Kitty.
